When Calls the Heart Tag

G'day readers!! Faith and Rebekah are hosting a When Calls the Heart party on their blogs this week! I've been a fan of WCTH since season one so there was no way I was passing up this opportunity! The gals came up with some questions and I'm going to answer them, best I can :)

1. What's your favorite season of When Calls the Heart? 

Season 1 was probably my favorite. There are bits and pieces I love from each season, it's hard to pick a favorite :) 

2. Who is your favorite character and why? 

I would have to go with Abigail. 

I love her demeanor. She's soft and loving, yet bold and stern. She stands up for Elizabeth and welcomes her to stay with her in the cafe. She also isn't afraid to stand up for the town against Gowen. She's a hard worker and she loves kids. She adopts Cody when he had no one else and some people viewed him as an insolent trouble maker.

And she listens to everyone from Elizabeth's trials at school, to Jack's concern for Elizabeth, to Frank's church problems, to Rosemary's gossip :) And She takes such cute behind the scenes pictures with the kids :P

3. Who is your least favorite character and why?

Faith said Nora and she is definitely one of mine but I would say Bill is my least favorite. I loved Bill when he first came. I was excited for him and Abigail and I loved that he was helping out the town. But then you know what happened and BAM Nora shows up and BAM there was a kid involved and BAM CHAOS.

Now Bill is still around but he's kinda grumpy since Abigail moved on to Frank and everyone is still wary of him. I just don't like that he's so secretive, even if he is doing the right thing. That's my two cents anyways :P

4. When did you first start watching When Calls the Heart?

As soon as it aired. My family was watching a Hallmark movie one day and we saw the commercial for the series premiere. I knew I wanted to watch that show so my sister and I DVRed it and we've been watching it ever since :D

5. Do you have a favorite couple from the show? If so, who and why are they your favorites? 

Gotta love Lee and Rosemary. They are almost so opposite yet so perfect for each other, it's funny. It's adorable to watch Rosemary fuss over Lee and work hard on their wedding and home etc. And it's great to watch Lee shake his head, yet lovingly allow Rosemary to fuss over everything :)

Who can forget when Lee used Molly Sullivan to make Rosemary jealous? Or when they worked together to foil Gowen's poker tricks?

6. Do you have a favorite quote from the show?

Elizabeth: “Only heathens arrive late to a Church service.” 

Jack: “Only the uncouth whisper during a sermon.”

Jack: "If…Let’s say a bear saved a deer from a skunk–a skunk who had every intention of hurting her, why…why then would the deer be angry at the bear?"

Abigail: "Perhaps the deer’s pride is hurt. Maybe seeing the bear reminds her that she was silly enough to trust a skunk."

Jack: "Hmm. I see…"

Abigail: "Furthermore, the bear was saving the deer from an untrustworthy animal, but didn’t seem to have any interest in replacing him."

Jack: "I’ve lost you."

Abigail: "Jack, Billy was not the right man for Elizabeth. He was, indeed, a skunk, but, one day, there will be an appropriate man, a good man, who will approach Elizabeth with honorable intentions, and then she will be taken. Perhaps approach her not as a Constable who’s there to rescue her, but as a man."

7. What are your thoughts on Rosemary LeVeaux? Did you like her right away or did she grow on you? 

Oh yes. I hated Rosemary. I remember my sister and I complaining when she burst into Coal Valley (now Hope Valley) and was all over Jack and ruining Elizabeth's day. But now she's one of my favorites. She adds life to the show :)

8. Have you read the When Calls the Heart book series? 

No but I've wanted too! I just haven't found the time to work through them yet. Maybe that will be my summer goal :)

9. Was there anything in season 3 that surprised you? (characters, plots, etc…) 

Faith moving to Hope Valley was a surprise. I trusted Jack and I knew he didn't have romantic feelings for Faith, but I didn't trust Faith and I knew Elizabeth would be mad at Jack (even though she shouldn't be mad at Jack given how she acted with Charles, that's a WHOLE other story)

And Aunt Caroline coming to take the children wasn't really a total surprise...but more of a surprise of how it happened. She just waltzed in and it was kinda cliche...I feel like Hallmark could've done better writing there. Aunt Caroline is rich and can give the kids anything they want but she doesn't know the kids, Abigail doesn't have nearly as much to offer other than love, Abigail turns momma bear mode, Cody throws a fit, Aunt Caroline doesn't believe girls should go to college, emotional break down for everyone, then Aunt Caroline realizes that the kids should stay with Abigail, and everyone lives happily ever after. Just a little too cliche (although I cried when Abigail and Cody have their talk in the bedroom *grabs a tissue*) 

10. What do you foresee happening in season 4? (Be creative and as detailed as you look :)) 

I think we should see a significant advance in Jack and Elizabeth's relationship. Engagement? Not so sure but I feel like they should progress. If not their relationship, Abigail and Frank's relationship might progress or hit a snag. I HOPE to see more of Clara again and Julie and Tom :) Remember how Clara met Luke and their rocky relationship as Clara was afraid of hurting Abigail (so sweet!) and Tom and Julie's whirlwind of a relationship between the car wreck and running away together? Gotta miss them.

Because 1.) I love Lion King! 2.) It's a good quote. We all have pasts and I'm sure there are things in our past that we wish we could reverse. Wouldn't it be great if life had an undo button???

Some of us may have greater things in our pasts that hurt us. Perhaps you went through a struggle or a trial personally or as a family? This quote can tie in with the above (I'm really proud of finding quotes that I can pair together. I didn't intend this when I scoured Pinterest earlier this week :D) And this quote is from Les Miserables! I'm obsessed so I had to use this. Les Mis focuses heavily on the redemptive path and it has some great music. 

So no matter what difficulty or terrible thing you are facing, or have faced, the sun will rise again. Good things will happen again. As a Christian, take comfort in your future home in heaven! Heaven will be PERFECT. Aren't you excited to see what heaven will be like? It will be far behind our imaginations!

This is from the TV show "The Middle" This show cracks me up so much. Some not so great episodes/scenes but most of it is stuff that most families can relate too. My family relates often LOL. Anyways, this quote makes me laugh so much (even though my sister and I have/had posters like that)

I think nowadays, the right path is never the easy path. Especially as a Christian, we have to go against the flow and battle against the world. It is difficult, but we have to do what's right. This reminds me of my favorite song to sing when I was in Children's Church: "Do Right"

And this quote goes along with the above. Even when the going gets tough, never stop looking for sunshine. A phrase my youth pastor uses often is "your attitude is your choice". No matter the circumstances, it all depends on how you view it. Don't look for the negative, spend your time looking for the positive. :)

Eleven Random Facts About Myself!

Okay, now for the questions!

1. What is your favorite movie?
Ugh. This is so hard to answer. My favorite animated movie, Lion King! My favorite movie-musical is Les Miserables. My favorite regular movie...my sister and I recently watched Facing the Giants and I love that movie so much!

2. Favorite genre of books?
I love a good mystery or books dealing with 1800s pioneer people (lol don't know what the "official" genre for that is called)

3. Books that are releasing in 2016 you are looking forward to reading?
 The Circle C Milestone Books :D

4. If you could travel anywhere in the U.S., where would you go?
I'd love to go out west! Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, or South Dakota!

5. Do you play any instruments?
I play piano and I sing :D

6. What is your favorite classical song?
Classical...hmm I don't listen to a lot of classical music. My sister does play some classical songs on the piano and some are pretty cool sounding.

7. Surprise! You've just been given a ticket to meet your favorite author! Who is it? As a kid, I loved reading the Christian Heritage series by Nancy Rue. She was my favorite back then! I have the Charleston Years series actually and I've read them over six times. Anyone else ever read those? Right now, I can't say I have one favorite author so I'll go with meeting Nancy Rue because through her books, I developed a love for that time era.

8. Favorite outdoor activity?
Right now, I like to sled since we have snow! But I like getting together with my friends and playing games like Ultimate Frisbee, Volleyball, or other dumb Youth Group games together haha.

9. Would you rather do laundry or clean the kitchen? (I know, I'm making you work ;P)
What kind of question is this?! Lol kidding. I'd say laundry because cleaning our entire kitchen is too much work.

10. What is you favorite book in the Bible and why is it your favorite?
Hmm this is a tough one. Probably Psalms just because of all the encouraging verses and many of the verses are parts of hymns or choruses we sing at church.

11: Who is your favorite historical character and why?
I do like Laura Ingalls and reading about the family. I love the pioneer days (obviously) so her story is very intriguing. (Plus I loved the TV series. And the mini series movie with Cameron Bancroft and Erin Cottrell. Anyone see that?) Oh but Corrie Ten Boom is probably my absolute favorite. I read the Hiding Place book for school three years ago, then the following year I did a speech on her and it was really fun to learn about her and her remarkable faith in God. If you don't know much about Corrie ten Boom, I highly recommend reading her book!

Earliest Memories Blog Tag!

Bethany R from A Great God and Good Cocoa nominated me to do the Earliest Memories Blog Tag! Sounds like a fun tag and I am ready to try it out (despite the fact I actually have a really bad memory!) However, we will give this a shot and you guys can learn a little bit more about me!

1. What is your earliest memory?
My earliest memory...is playing "Mother May I...?" and "Red Light Green Light" in the hallway of my old church. Every Sunday us kids would play there. This was somewhere between Preschool/Kindergarten and First Grade.

2. What is your earliest memory of a birthday?

I don't remember what age I was...maybe third or fourth grade...my Momma put together a Lion King birthday for me. (Lion King was my favorite Disney movie). My parents went all out, decorating the house with vines Dad found out in the woods. Momma, who is a decent artist, drew pictures of Simba and Timon and Pumbaa to decorate the walls with. 

3. What is your earliest memory of a food?

Hmm...I have a vague memory of eating some sort of meat while at a friend's house...I think it was rabbit. I remember being grossed out and spitting it out. 

4. What is your earliest memory of a gathering?

Probably my birthday party...the same one mentioned above.

5. What is your earliest memory of family?

When my siblings and I would go to my cousin's house, we would always play animal games or with her LEGOs. But because my cousin was an only child, she would always get really sad when we would have to leave. I remember one time she cried when we had to leave and I remember my sister and I felt really sad. 

6. What is your favorite memory?

I'm going to list two favorite memories because it's hard to pick just one! 
First a fun memory: I have a friend at church. We had always been friends but we became best friends when I was in eighth grade and she in seventh. We instantly got a reputation...and not exactly the best one :P One time we were running in the church basement. It was dark and we were racing to the other end of the hallway where it was light. We thought we were alone but suddenly, one of the ladies from church stepped out and caught us. We freaked out and stopped running and she looked at us and said "You two look like you're up to no good!" She laughed at us as we stood there with scared faces and then she left and we ran off again.

Second of my favorite memories is a special one to me. One time I wrote a note to one of the ladies at church (actually, same lady who caught me and my best friend in the above memory haha) and I just thanked her for what she did at the church and for being a good Sunday school teacher and being a good example for me to look up to. She took the note home with her but the next time she saw me, she came up to me and thanked me for the note. But then she proceeded to tell me that God used me in a very big way. I don't remember exactly what she said but she expressed she was going through a tough time and my note lifted her spirits. I was only fourteen at the time and for someone that I looked up to, to tell me that God used me in a big way, really impacted my life and that memory stays with me always. God can use anyone, in anyway to impact someone's life in a positive way. 

Whew...those were a bit long winded....moving along! :D

7. What is your earliest memory of a gift?

I remember getting a toy Simba lion who moved and sang when you pressed his ear! He was amazing and I loved him.

8. What is your earliest memory of an embarrassment?

Hmmm...probably crying my eyes out my first time at my new church. My parents put my sister and I in Children's Church together but I was a shy kid and with all these new people, I cried :P A couple came to sing songs with us but I think I refused and cried instead. My little sister was fine LOL

9. What is your earliest memory of when you were scared?

I remember being like First grade maybe...and my sister and I were going at it, fighting a bit. We raced into our room and I beat her so I climbed into our one closet. (In the bedroom there was a regular closet then there was a closet about two feet off the ground that we stored toys and stuff in. However, the closet locked from the outside and there was no way to open it from the inside.) So I hopped in the closet and started taunting my sister for losing to me. She responded to my mean words by slamming the closet door on me. I was suddenly in the dark. I panicked and told her to let me out. She tried to reach the door latch but she was too short. I was stuck inside for a few minutes until my sister found my mom. Since then, I've been terrified of being locked in small places...

10. What is your earliest memory of a camp? 

First camp I ever went to was in 2012 when I was thirteen. It was a Winter Camp...January 19th. It was a small group of teens and we all stayed in a huge lodge. 

11. How young were you when you received Christ?

I got saved while at my first ever camp! It was during the first service that I realized that even though I had grown up in church and I knew all these Bible stories and verses, I had never sat down and personally asked Christ to forgive me of my sins and to save me. So, in tears, I bowed my head and made for certain that I was saved :)

10 Facts Tag!

After reading Blessing Counter's 10 Facts Tag on her blog at Counting Your Blessings One By One, I decided it would be fun for me to do this blogging tag as well! All I have to do is list ten random facts about me. So let's get right into it!

1. I have a loooow voice. Okay, so some of you might have known this but it is a random fact about me :P My range extends from about a C below Middle C (depending on how early in the day haha) to a high F (two Fs above Middle C) I sing alto in the church choir and I have been called on to assist the tenors sometimes :)
2. Speaking of music, I love musicals! My great-grandmother, great-aunt, grandmother, and mother all loved musicals and they passed their love down to me and my sister. My mother took my sister to see Beauty and the Beast (the musical version) when we were real young. Since then we've seen numerous shows. I've seen Les Miserables three times, Fiddler on the Roof, the Wizard of Oz twice (once professionally and once locally) and I've been to Sight and Sound Theaters four times.
3. Speaking of musicals, I have been in a musical! My sister and I auditioned for The Sound of Music one year and we got parts as nuns (LOL) We also got to be in the party scene as party goers! That time was so much fun for me! I had a blast at practices and during productions. We performed three times. The first production, during the part where the Von Trapps run away from the Festival (for all you Sound of Music fans out there!) all of us nuns were supposed to be listening to the "Mother Superior" while the other "head nuns" led the Von Trapps behind the iron gate to hide. Well, the iron gate FELL on the stage during the first production. It was SO loud and scared everyone. A few of the "nuns" screamed but we mostly maintained character and the gate was fixed and the show resumed normally.
4. I play the Handbells. Our church has three octaves of bells. My sister and I joined at the same time. I usually play the G, A flat, and A bells just below middle C but recently our director has us switching around and playing each of the bells!
5. I love to record acapella music! I have my own microphone and I got nice headphones for Christmas. I use an iPad app and a mic that plugs right into the headphone jack to record myself, siblings, and church friends singing songs.
6. This goes with number 6, I like video making! Sometimes when I record an acapella song, I then film myself singing each part and put it together in a "music video". I love fiddling around with computer stuff and video making is fun for me.
7. I used to play soccer! From about 10 or 11 until I was 15, I played on a rec soccer league. My dad helped coach my teams a few times. I really enjoyed it and it was a fun time :)
8. I keep two diaries. One diary I write about my daily thoughts and special events that occur to me throughout the year. The other diary I keep specifically for church related activities. Because my family is so involved with my church and my church family is basically my real family, I've taken to writing about all of the church happenings in a separate diary. My sister says I'm weird but hey, we all have our own weird quirks.
9. Staying with the church theme, I have written little mystery books about me, my sister, and three of our friends from church. My sister and I both wrote mystery books about the five of us solving mysteries that involved the church. I might end up posting one of the stories on here for you guys to read sometime...maybe...
10. Last one! My family has owned almost 40 cats. 39 to be exact! Living beside a busy road means that many of our cats (unfortunately) have not lived past one or two years old. We've had numerous litters of kittens too and we've had to give those kittens away (but always keeping at least one :D)
